An early spring in the Vale?

The past two weeks have been absolutely glorious in the Vale. The birds have been chirping like crazy, the almond blossoms have greeted us and the sun has been shining through the crisp air. The backdrop to this has been the perfectly (aquamarine?) blue sky. As I’ve been driving around the McLaren Vale region I’ve been marvelling at the explosion of colour. As the vines are now almost all pruned and quite bare, you can see right through the rows of vines, all standing tall and proud in their luminous green beds. It is a very special time of year, everything seems dormant, like an extended breath, but you know it’s all about to explode into tender and prolific new growth. In a few months the green of the pastures will fade as the soil warms and reveals the different coloured soils of this region. The vines however will become resplendent in their bright green canopies.

Pruned vines.

Patiently waiting for the warmth.

Ewe and lamb.

Aka mother and child. These beautiful creatures do a great job at keeping the weeds down in between the vines reducing or eliminating the need to use chemicals. That’s a BIG plus for keeping this environment clean and besides, the lambs are super cute!
